Toward a Multilevel Secure Relational
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although there are several eeorts underway to build multilevel secure relational database management systems , there is no clear consensus regarding what a multilevel secure relational data model exactly is. In part this lack of consensus on fundamental issues re-ects the subtleties involved in extending the classical (single-level) relational model to a multilevel environment. Our aim in this paper is to discuss the most fundamental aspects of the multilevel secure relational model. Speciically, we consider two requirements: entity integrity and update semantics. Our overall goal is to preserve as much as possible the simplicity and exibility of the relational model without sacriicing security in the process.

متن کاملThe semantics of an extended referential integrity for a multilevel secure relational data model
To prevent information leakage in multilevel secure data models, the concept of polyinstantiation was inevitably introduced. Unfortunately, when it comes to references through foreign key in multilevel relational data models, the polyinstantiation causes referential ambiguities. To resolve this problem, this paper proposes an extended referential integrity semantics for a multilevel relational ...
متن کاملImplementing Belief-Consistent Multilevel Secure Relational Data Model: Issues and Solutions
This paper summarizes our efforts in implementing a working multi-level secure database prototype. We have chosen BeliefConsistent Multilevel Secure Relational Data Model (BCMLS) as a basis for our prototype because of its comprehensive semantics for interpreting all stored information. While semantically superior to other models, this model has not been implemented as a working system before. ...
متن کاملMultilevel Secure Rules: Integrating the Multilevel Secure and Active Data Models
Traditional database security is made more complex by the addition of rules to the data model. The security policy must control access privileges and accessibility for rule descriptions, executing rules, and database transitions (events). In this paper we extend the multilevel secure relational model to capture the functionality required of an active database, i. e. a database with production r...
متن کاملEntity Modeling in the MLS Relational Model
Previous proposals for a multilevel secure relational model have utilized syntactic integrity properties to control problems such as polyinstantiation, pervasive ambiguity, and proliferation of tuples due to updates. Although successive versions of these models have shown steady improvement, most thorny problems have been mitigated but not resolved. We believe that the major roadblock to progre...
